Wavestone wins at the IBM Watsonx TechXchange pre-conference hackathon
September 18, 2025 · News
In brief:
Following a strong second-place finish at the HuggingFace & Gradio Hackathon in July 2025, Wavestone has now secured first place at the IBM Watsonx TechXchange pre-conference hackathon with the Hive.ai project.
This global event challenged teams to build impactful solutions using agentic AI aligned with UN SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities). UN Sustainable Development Goal 11 focuses on making cities inclusive, safe, resilient, and sustainable.
This win underscores not only our team’s commitment to innovation but also Wavestone’s ability to combine AI, sustainability, and cutting-edge infrastructure to deliver real-world impact aligned with global urban development goals.
Hive.ai: AI for urban climate resilience
Hive.ai is an open-source platform that transforms climate and UN SDG data into city-specific action plans. Built on IBM Watsonx, IBM Cloud, and Granite 3.3 models, Hive.ai helps cities track progress toward this goal by analyzing climate risks, mapping vulnerabilities, and recommending practical interventions in mobility, green spaces, energy, waste, and citizen engagement. These recommendations are presented through a visual, interactive interface, featuring a world map that allows users to explore city-specific insights at a glance.

Powered by autonomous BeeAI agents
Hive.ai integrates three specialized agents:
- BeeAI ClimateAnalyst: analyzes climate data and model uncertainties.
- BeeAI UrbanAdvisor: maps vulnerabilities and generates tailored recommendations.
- BeeAI SDG11Validator: evaluates proposals against SDG 11 targets and suggests improvements.
What’s next?
Hive.ai will be showcased at the IBM TechXchange Conference in Orlando (October 6–9) and has been submitted to the 2025 Call for Code Global Challenge, one of the world’s largest tech-for-good initiatives.
