Wavestone joins European Commission consortium to assess cyber risks of advanced AI models
November 6, 2026 · News
In brief
The assignment forms part of the European Union’s AI Safety program, in the context of the EU AI Act. It focuses on understanding how advanced general-purpose AI (GPAI) models could enable cyberattacks and supporting the development of robust evaluation methods.
Wavestone will contribute its cybersecurity and AI expertise to this European initiative.
Assessing emerging cyber threats
Advanced AI models are gaining capabilities that could be misused to discover vulnerabilities or generate exploits. Increasing autonomy also raises concerns about their potential role in orchestrating cyberattacks at scale.
The consortium will support the AI Office’s work to assess these risks. The announced scope includes cyber threat modeling and the development of evaluation tools, alongside technical compliance methodologies and on-demand technical assessments.
AI is transforming the cyber threat landscape as rapidly as it is creating new opportunities. Ensuring that advanced AI models remain safe and trustworthy requires the ability to anticipate, assess and mitigate emerging risks. We are proud to contribute Wavestone’s cybersecurity and AI expertise to this European initiative, alongside Capgemini and LNE, to help turn the AI Act’s ambitions into operational reality.
Supporting the European AI Office
The consortium brings together complementary expertise in cybersecurity risk management and operational security, as well as AI evaluation and conformity assessment.
Its work will support the AI Office in identifying systemic cyber risks associated with advanced general-purpose AI models and implementing the AI Act’s obligations for GPAI providers.
