Background

Société du Grand Paris (SGP) is responsible for designing and constructing the Grand Paris Express public transport network.

As the principal project owner, SGP experienced strong employee growth in 2016, reaching 2,500 staff at the end of 2017: 250 SGP employees, 2,300 external service providers, major transportation players (SNCF and RATP), and architectural offices.

The projected budget for 2017 – €1.8bn – involves the preparatory work for a substantial set of projects that must be carried out in concert.

The proliferation of projects, and the people contributing to them, raise questions about “working better together” and the tools that can support such collaboration.

Challenges

SGP chose Wavestone to help construct a roadmap to ensure efficiency and the smooth running of projects by:

  • Taking into account both existing and future collaborative uses, as well as those that facilitate access and information sharing;
  • Addressing SGP’s collaborative needs in terms of process, organizational structure, and tools;
  • Proposing simple and concrete forms of governance;
  • Defining an agile and digital change-management strategy;
  • Developing a pragmatic approach and timetable.

Responses and key success factors

Since January 2017, Wavestone has dedicated a team of four to this project. A collaboration platform involving 600 employees is already in place, and is expected to reach 2,500 people by mid-May 2018.
